Household composition
a. Before you can search for a home, you must indicate with whom you want to move to a new home. Under Household composition and income you specify with whom you will conduct a joint household:
- the adult with whom you have or will have a permanent joint household (your partner);
- (foster) children under 18 years of age*;
- (foster) children aged 18 years and older* who have lived continuously in the parental family or who have not been deregistered for more than six months according to the basic register of persons;
- (foster) children aged 18 and older* who live at home and who, according to the Personal Records Database, are registered again for two years after deregistering for longer than six months;
- (foster) children* not living at home who demonstrably become part of the household again (for example after being admitted to an institution, in connection with family reunification or after a court decision)
- one or both parents who are permanently part of the household (usually on the basis of informal care);
- other residents such as grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters.
- In case of co-parenting (after the termination of cohabitation, marriage or registered partnership), the (foster) children can be included in both single-parent households.
- The condition is that the (foster) children live in each of the households for at least three whole days a week. You must be able to prove co-parenting.
- This must be included in a parenting plan (after cohabitation), a court decision or a divorce agreement.
- All the above-mentioned persons in your household count towards the appropriate allocation of housing: this means that the number of persons in your household also determines the rental price up to which you may rent a property.
- The size of your household often also determines the size of the home you can rent.
- Not all of the above persons in your household always count, only the persons who permanently belong to your household. In the case of “homes for families”, for example, only the (foster) children up to the age of 18 who live at home are included, as well as the (foster) children up to the age of 18 who are not living at home and who will demonstrably become part of the household again.
- Grandchildren and other residents do not count, our employee determines the size of the household, without including all of the above persons.
- For some homes, households with children are excluded.
b. This applies, for example, to most senior housing and the smaller one and two-room residences.
- During the housing allocation, we will test the number of people who belong to your household permanently and not permanently. If the number of persons is not correct, this may have consequences for the housing allocation.
- Unborn children no longer count in the composition of the household.
